History of Our School

The dedication of S. C. Lee Junior High School and the Lester E. Hanke Athletic Complex was held October 13, 1996.  Lee JHS is one of the two junior high schools in Copperas Cove, Texas with an enrollment of approximately 900 students in Grades 6, 7 & 8th.  

S.C. Lee opened in August 1996.  S.C. Lee Junior High School was named in honor of Sameul Cidney “Buck” Lee.  Mr. Lee was born May 26, 1914 and died at the age of 94 on May 5, 2009.  He graduated with the Copperas Cove High School Class of 1947.  He served on the school board for 25 years in the positions of President and Vice President.  Mr. Lee has received awards from the Texas Parent Teacher Association and the Central Texas Youth Services Bureau.

The Athletic Complex behind the school was named in honor of Lester E. Hanke.  Coach Hanke retired after 31 years with CCISD and a total of 35 years in education.  Coach Hanke held the title of Assistant Athletic Director until his retirement.
