COPPERAS COVE – The region’s most outstanding middle school assistant principal is from Copperas Cove ISD.
The 2024-25 Region 12 recipient of the Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year award from the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals is Marshall Chauvin from S.C. Lee Jr. High School.
“I am honored to receive this award,” Chauvin said. “It is both incredibly validating and humbling. To me, this is further confirmation that my dedication to education and to the students of CCISD has been recognized.”
Chauvin began his role as assistant principal at Lee in April 2023, serving in that role through the end of the 2023-24 school year.
The award recognizes his contributions to aiding the campus in his year as assistant principal on the north side of Copperas Cove.
“Mr. Chauvin has come up through the ranks, starting as a substitute teacher, then a paraprofessional, teacher and, now, as an outstanding campus leader,” said Amanda Crawley, Deputy Superintendent for Instructional Services. “He is student-focused and it shows in every decision he makes. Marshall has high expectations for students and staff and he is a service-minded individual who I can honestly say makes a huge difference in our district, and in the lives of our students.”
Chauvin began with CCISD in 2016 and quickly worked his way up the ranks. In the 2020-21 school year, he served as Digital Learning Coordinator before moving to an instructional coach position and, later, assistant principal.
In May, the CCISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Chauvin as the new campus principal at S.C. Lee Jr. High for the 2024-25 school year.
“Moving forward, I intend to carry the spirit of this award with me in all that I do as the principal at S.C. Lee,” Chauvin said. “My approach will be driven by collaboration, student-centered learning and continual improvement. I will work with my campus to ensure that we create an inclusive and safe environment where all our students feel valued, heard and empowered to achieve their full potential.”
As an assistant principal, Chauvin was key in handling campus discipline, part of the team which implemented Capturing Kids’ Hearts for social-emotional learning and he helped coach and appraise teachers on the campus.
“I’ve taken the coaching aspect of being an assistant principal to heart,” Chauvin said. “The leadership philosophy that I believe in is one of service. I approach that from a coaching standpoint and it has been rewarding to see that coaching pay off in a big way for both students and teachers.”
Chauvin is CCISD’s second recipient of this award. Julie Kearney won the award in the mid-2000’s while she served as a middle school assistant principal for the district.
TASSP recognized Chauvin recently in Belton and will recognize him next summer at its annual summer workshop, as well as throughout the 2024-25 school year.
